Discounts Module Quick Guide

Discounts Module

The Discounts module is where your business can set up Discount Rules and Promo Codes.  The module can be found in the Products section of OrderPort admin.

Discount Rules vs Customer Class Discounts

  • Discount Rules are generally used for specific items or periods of time.  They are designed to be temporary discounts.
  • If you want customers to receive a regularly occurring discount (such as club discounts), make sure Customer Class discounts are enabled.
  • A Discount Rule takes precedent over a person’s customer class discount.  Only use a Discount rule if you do not want a customer’s regular discount level to apply.

Discount Rules

Discount Rules are created to provide customers with automatic discounts at checkout.  These can apply to products for sale as well as shipping charges.  When you open the Discounts module, the landing page will show your current discount rules.  Discounts rules can be opened ended, but more often they will have an end date.  Rules that are greyed out are not currently active.

You can click and drag your various rules in the order you would like them to apply.  Make sure your current rule has the highest priority so another rule doesn’t get triggered instead.

At right is an example of a Discount Rule.  In this example, wine club members in Washington receive free shipping and a 20% discount if they purchase two or more cases of wine.  There is no maximum, so any amount above 24 bottles is eligible.   When this rule is enabled, the discount will kick in at checkout if the items in the cart qualify.  In this case the rule is open ended, but the business can set a end date if they want to.

Additionally, the Discount Rule specifies that the free shipping only to three specific shipping methods.

Components of Discount Rules

Rule Name: how the rule will display at checkout

Start/End Date: if you want it to be active for a limited time, enter the dates here.

Quantities: set minimum and maximum quantity you want the rule to qualify for.

Unit Price($): allows you to change the price per products selected.
Discount(%): allows you to add a percentage discount to the products selected.

Shipping: if there is a shipping component, check the appropriate box.  Choose the qualifying methods and pricing.

Applies To: choose which products you want the rule to apply to.

Bill/Ship State: if you want the rule to only apply to customers in certain states, choose them here. Customer Class: if you only want certain customer classes to receive the discount, specify them here.

Discount Rules can apply to all products, multiple products, or a single product.  This rule applies to multiple products that the winery has specified.  If you are wanting to limit a rule top certain products, choose those products on the Products tab.  Like in the Catalog Manager, you can search by specific names or SKUs or filter by product groups.  Check the box for each product you want included, then save your changes.  The rule will only take effect if those wines are in a customer’s cart.

If your rule involves shipping, first choose whether it will be free shipping or discounted shipping.  Next, choose which shipping method qualifies.  You can choose specific methods from the list that you currently use.  After choosing the shipping method, you can decide if you want to limit the rule to certain states or customer classes. After you have completed all of your parameters, save the rule.  You should then test the rule in Admin Cart to make sure it’s working correctly.

At right is an example cart showing the rule in effect.

Promo Codes

A Promo Code in OrderPort can be used to give a customer a discount on an entire order.  They can be set up to either give a customer a percentage discount, or to remove a dollar amount from an order total.

When making a purchase online, the customer will type in the code at

checkout to receive the discount.  If you are checking out a customer from the point of sale, you will tap on the promo code at checkout.

Note: a Promo Code applies to an order as a whole.  If you want a code to apply to only a specific product, create a Coupon Code in the Catalog Manager.
