What is the California Bottle Bill Fee?
The California Bottle Bill Fee, also known as California Redemption Value (CRV) is a fee that consumers pay when purchasing beverages in Aluminum, Glass, Plastic, or Bi-metal. The fee is as follows.
.5 cents for a container with a capacity of less than 24 fluid ounces
.10 cents for a container with a capacity of 24 fluid ounces or more (e.g., 750 ml wine bottles)
How does this work in OrderPort?
Starting on January 1st, 2024, the product CA bottle fee will be added to the Catalog Manager. Wineries will need to ensure that all Wine or Spirit products have the correct number of ml filled out on the Wine Specs page so the fee will calculate properly.
Setting up the Fee according to your Licenses.
Navigate to the Sales Tax and Licensing Module. This is where wineries must set the Distributor and Manufacturer flags according to their licenses.
- If the Distributor is checked, then we calculate the CRV fee for every order shipped to CA. By default, all wineries have this flag checked.
- If the Manufacturer is checked, then we calculate the processing fee for every order shipped to CA. By default, all wineries have this flag unchecked. This means that the winery needs to check this box if they are a manufacturer.
For some wineries both of these will be checked. If both of them are checked then Two fees will populate on the order. In addition if the calculated processing fee is over $0.00 but under $0.01, we round it to $0.01.
How to set up milliliters?
Navigate to the Catalog Manager. Select the desired product. (This only applies to products with the product type of wine.) Click on the Wine Spec tab and on the right-hand side you will see a volume category. Enter the information and save changes.
How do I find out what wine products do not have MLS?
In OrderPort administration -> operations -> Reports -> Standard reports -> Compliance reports. There is a report at the bottom of the page called Catalog. This will export an Excel file of your products.
Once you have the report open select Enable editing. Next, you should select Colum F (Product Type) and Sort Filter Z to A. This will populate all your Wine Products at the top of the file. From here you can see which wine products in Colum W (Volume) are blank and need to be corrected in the catalog manager.
How to set up Glasses?
Navigate to the Catalog Manager. Select the desired product. (This only applies to products with the product type of wine.) Please change the Products Group to any Group with the Group Type as "Glass" as this Group Type is exempt from California Bottle Bill Fee.
How can I set up my bottles type for the Processing Fee?
In the Catalog Manager select the desired Wine Product. Navigate to the wine specs tab and Update the bottle type. The bottle type is how the California Bottle fee will determine the processing fee. It is very important that this is configured correctly. The default bottle type will be glass so all of your glasses should be already configured correctly. If you are not a Manufacturer you do not need to set this up as the Processing fee is only for those marked as Manufacturer.
Can I remove it from an order?
The clerk can manually remove the fee with the Red "X". If they remove the fee by mistake, they must use the "Clear" button to bring the fee back.
Why isn't my California bottle fee being added to my orders?
If you have tax or tax for California turned off in "Sales Tax & Licenses" the fee won't apply.
