Socket Mobile and UPC Codes

Modified on Thu, 15 Jan at 2:08 PM

The Socket Mobile scanner is used to scan barcodes on your products. This is an optional feature, as you must first set up barcodes or UPC codes for each product you want to be scannable. The Socket Mobile Barcode scanners are compatible with all OrderPort Applications. We are compatible with the S740 socket mobile, which can be purchased here.

How to Set Up UPC Codes and Barcodes

The Socket Mobile scanner allows wineries to scan barcodes on their products. These barcodes are associated with products using UPC codes. OrderPort does not generate UPC codes; wineries are responsible for creating and assigning their own. UPC codes must be 13 digits or fewer.

Setting Up UPC Codes

Navigate to the Catalog Manager, located under the Products tab. Search for and select the desired product. In the top-right corner of the product details page, you will see a UPC field. Enter the UPC code in this field.

If you select the plus (+) icon next to the UPC field, you can add multiple UPC codes to the same product. This is useful if a product has more than one barcode.

Setting Up Barcodes

Navigate to the Catalog Manager, located under the Products tab. From the purple navigation bar, select Barcode. This will take you to OrderPort’s integration with DYMO label printing.

You will need to create barcode templates using the DYMO software. Templates are created and managed on the DYMO website. Use the following link to download the DYMO software: https://www.dymo.com/support?cfid=online-support

OrderPort is compatible with the DYMO LabelWriter 550 printer, which can be purchased directly from DYMO or authorized retailers.

Once your templates have been created, return to OrderPort, navigate to the Barcode Templates tab, and select Add Template to upload and configure your barcode templates.

Printing Barcodes

Navigate to the Catalog Manager, located under the Products tab. From the purple navigation bar, select Barcode. Be sure to open the DYMO software as well so it can connect to the printer.

Under the Print Barcodes tab, select the template and printer you wish to use. Next, select the white checkbox next to each barcode you want to print and enter the quantity for each label.

Once everything is set up, select Print Barcodes to begin printing.

FAQ

Can I use a different barcode and printing generator software?

Yes. You may use a different barcode or label-printing software as long as the UPC codes are set up on the products in OrderPort and are no longer than 13 digits.

Once all UPC codes have been added in the Catalog Manager, navigate to the Reports module. Select Standard Reports, then Other Reports, and run the Catalog Manager Report. This will generate an Excel file containing all associated UPC codes.
