Creating and Adding Service Charges to POS

A service charge is an amount that is added to your bill in a restaurant to pay for the work of the person who comes and serves you.  As opposed to a tip, this will be a set rate or price that be added to a customer's bill.

Creating a Service Charge is done in the Catalog Manager.   It will be created in a similar fashion to adding a product. To make a Service Charge available in your POS, follow these steps:

1.  Open Catalog Manager and click "New Product."

2.  When the new product page generates, choose "On Demand" as the product type.  When the page reconfigures, choose as the subgroup either "Service Charge Rate" or "Service Charge Amount."  A rate will allow you to set up your Service Charge as a percentage of the final bill, while choosing the amount option will allow you to set up the Service Charge as a specific dollar amount. If you do not see the product subgroup type, reach out to helpdesk@orderport.net to activate this.

3.  Add the name of the charge as you would like it to appear in your Catalog Manager and your POS.

4.  Next, enter the percentage rate or the dollar amount of the charge.   Save changes.

5.  After saving the Service Charge product, assign it to your desired group and subgroup under the Groups and Subgroups tab.  Save Changes.

6.  Click on the status tab and click "Active" to make it appear in your inventory.

7.  Check the POS and look for Service Charge in the group it was assigned to.   It will appear as a product does.   After a bill or cart has been assembled for the customer, add the Service Charge as if it were a product itself.

8.  On the checkout screen, the Service Charge will be listed in the cart.   It will apply either the dollar amount or the percentage amount desired and reflect this in the final amount due.
